April 20 - Alleluia! is our only song

Alleluia! There. I said it. We haven’t said that since March 4, and well, I for one, have missed it! I enjoy singing Alleluia before the proclamation of the Gospel. I enjoy hymns where Alleluia is a part of the refrain.

April 6 - The powerful image of the Jesus who wept
The urban legend is that John 11:35 is the shortest verse in the Bible, and while there can be an argument made for that claim, it is the power of the verse and not its brevity that makes it so important. “Jesus wept.” More ...

March 23 - We must seek more than water in our relationship with Jesus
More often than not, the people in the Scriptures who ask questions have no idea exactly what they are asking. In this Sunday’s readings we have two examples of that. More ...

Feb. 9 - We are judged on how we treat the poor

Jan. 5 -- Not all who seek want to find what we have to give them

“Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage.” These duplicitous instructions to the magi from King Herod the Great offer us a very careful warning in dealing with the world around us.

Dec. 29 - The Holy family calls us to support families everywhere
Given the crisis facing the average American family, not to mention the many challenges facing families throughout the world, the Feast of the Holy Family provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of family in our lives. More ...

Dec. 22 - Joseph is the silent evangelist pointing us to Jesus
The Fourth Sunday of Advent hits us with the familiar – perhaps all too familiar – Gospel passage of St. Joseph’s dream announcing the birth of Jesus.  As a general rule, the annunciation to the Virgin Mary is more often a source of reflection and therefore garners more attention. More ...
