Apologetics courses needed

I read, with interest, our Bishop’s essay on “the facts of our faith.”  Our Catholic education system is very efficient in explaining the facts of our faith to each young student.

Unfortunately, many students lose their faith when they go off to college.  When their faith is challenged, some cannot even articulate why they believe in God.  The secular arguments of their peers become very persuasive in the worldly atmosphere of higher education.

Perhaps courses in Catholic apologetics, taught by qualified teachers, in our Catholic schools, would strengthen the foundations of their faith.  This would not only allow them a solid defense of their beliefs, but might also inspire them to evangelize.

Robert J. Konzelmann, Howell

Editor’s Note: Catholic apologetics is in fact part of the curriculum of Catholic High Schools in the Diocese of Trenton.
