More than 700 people turned out in Georgian Court University, Lakewood, for the 17th annual gift auction fundraiser to benefit Providence House in Ocean County, a program run by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton, that provides assistance to victims of domestic abuse and their children.
The event, held in June in Georgian Court University, Lakewood, raised nearly $65,000 to support domestic violence services in Ocean County.
“Monies raised from this event will help Providence House continue to provide round the clock free lifesaving services and we could not have done it without our incredible sponsors, donors and volunteers who gave their time, talent and support to promote peace in their community” said Mary Pettrow, associate service area director.
The array of services and programs provided by Providence House help victims of domestic abuse obtain both emergency shelter and permanent housing, access to education and job-readiness training, individual and group counseling and legal assistance and advocacy. The organization also maintains a 24-hour domestic violence hotline as well as a volunteer domestic violence response team. It provides assistance with helping those in need separate from abusive individuals, change living situations and work on empowerment strategies while providing a safe place to escape abuse.
