As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I hereby establish and decree that July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019 shall be celebrated throughout the four counties of Diocese of Trenton as a “Year of Youth.” The purposes and goals of this “Year of Youth” shall be:
1. To increase the active engagement of young Catholics in relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and help them grow in faith as missionary disciples;
2. To celebrate the gifts of young Catholics and increase their opportunities to make a difference at home, in their school, their parish, their Diocese and the world;
3. To challenge misconceptions about the Church and cultivate a more positive attitude among young adult Catholics about the desire of young people to live and witness their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; and,
4. To inspire parishes throughout the Diocese of Trenton to welcome young people, help them to feel at home and encourage their participation in parish life.
May this special “Year of Youth” be a source of grace and blessing to our entire Diocese, especially to the young people among us!
Given at the Chancery of the Diocese of Trenton on this Twelfth day of June in the Year of Our Lord 2018.
Most Rev. David M. O’Connell, C.M., J.C.D.
