Rambling Spirit Column: Renouncing relativism, the philosophy of self
We are in a philosophical crisis, and it is caused by too much self-interest. This leads to us thinking a great deal about one another as well, which sounds good until we realize that our impetus for doing so comes from the same dangerous philosophy of self.

We are so interested in not offending one another that we avoid speaking truth due to its tendency to often offend people. God, being truth, subsequently falls into a very inconvenient corner of our conversations.

Christina Capecchi Column: 'I sold them life' - learning from a man who saved hundreds
Little did he know what a noble purpose awaited him when Don Ritchie settled into a house on Old South Head Road back in 1964. The former Navy seaman and retired salesman was eager to soak in the stunning view with his wife: an ocean cliff at Watsons Bay in Eastern Sydney known as The Gap. More ...

When Child Care Resources of Neptune reached out to St. Thomas More Parish, Manalapan, asking for help with hosting a diaper drive for Monmouth County, the response was overwhelming.

“The diaper drive falls into our calling as Catholics,” said 15-year-old youth ministry member Eugenia Craggan, “because every time we are helping that person, we are helping ourselves, and we are doing it for God. During Lent, almsgiving is all about giving and helping others.”

Rambling Spirit Column: True friendship the key to having a relationship with God
My friend Jerry loves to work out. He knows all the best exercise routines and has made staying in shape into an admirable hobby. He also loves his Catholic faith, and somewhere along his spiritual journey, he noticed that he was spending a lot more time exercising than he was with God. Bishop O'Connell's homily for the 2018 DYC
The theme of our conference today has been “Fearless 365.”  It’s been pointed out that the words “do not be afraid” appear in the Bible 365 times. That’s an interesting coincidence since there are 365 days in the year.  But what does it mean to be “fearless?”  To know the answer, to be “fearless,” you have to know what “fear” is.

Fear is a human feeling, a human emotion --- like happiness or joy, sadness or sorrow, anger or frustration, calm or peacefulness --- that occurs in response to something either outside of yourself or inside.  That “something” can be real or imagined.  It can be reasonable or fantasy.  At some point in life everyone experiences “fear:” fear of the unknown, fear of the dark, for example.  Fear of failure, fear of the future, fear of relationships or loneliness.
