Teens pitch in at Trenton community garden during Mission: Jersey retreat

With the sun bearing down upon them, and shovels and rakes in hand, teens from around the Diocese lent their time and energy July 13 to a community garden in Trenton, putting their call of service and faith into action.

The service project, part of the first of two Mission: Jersey retreat weekends, kicked off with more than a dozen teens gathered beneath the shade of a wooden gazebo. 

“It’s a humbling experience to get your hands dirty," said Madelyn Balko, 15, of St. Mary Parish, Barnegat.

More details emerge for Diocese's Year of Youth

The Diocesan Year of Youth recently declared in a decree issued by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will kick off officially at St. Mary Parish, Barnegat.

On June 12, Bishop O’Connell, C.M., decreed the diocesan Year of Youth to coincide with the Synod of Bishops on Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment in October, and with the worldwide gathering of young people with Pope Francis in January 2019 for World Youth Day in Panama.

Freehold teens learn about prevalence of homeless kids, youth in local communities

As 2nd-generation Latina, area young adult visits Mexican border

For Kimberly Macario, the issue of immigration is personal – now more than ever.

A second-generation Latina, Macario had long heard about immigration and experiences at the U.S.-Mexico border from her parents after their journey to America. But due to a recent pilgrimage, she now has a much deeper sense about the topic and a greater appreciation for risks that many take along the border on a daily basis.
