Christopher Pinto ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop O'Connell

“I’ve been praying for your son for so long,” Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., expressed warmly as he greeted Anthony and Rita Pinto May 19 in St. Raphael Church, Hamilton, to the transitional diaconate ordination for their son, Christopher.

“It’s a very emotional day,” Rita Pinto shared, as her husband concurred.

“I’m so proud,” Anthony Pinto said.

Bishop issues decrees for seven parish mergers
Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., gathered with diocesan officers May 15 to formally sign the decrees for the mergers that will create seven new parish communities out of 14. The mergers, which take effect July 1, 2018, are part of a multi-year implementation phase that followed the Diocese’s Faith in Our Future pastoral planning initiative. 

Beginning with a special prayer for the occasion, Bishop O’Connell formally signed the documents, turning them over to Terry Ginther, diocesan chancellor and executive director of the Office of Pastoral Life and Mission, who signed and stamped them with the diocesan seal.

Christopher Pinto to be ordained as transitional deacon

Christopher Pinto, who once served as a public school band director and music teacher, will now follow a different maestro and adhere to a different score.

Pinto is the son of Anthony and Rita, and brother to older siblings, Michael and Lorraine. His home parish is Hamilton’s St. Raphael-Holy Angels. He attended Pemberton public schools, then graduated from then-Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), Ewing, in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in music education.

Catholic Schools Day of Service sees kids helping sick kids feel loved

Thanks to the combined efforts of the 31 Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Trenton, children being treated in area hospitals will know a little more comfort and peace.

“It wasn’t an assignment to us – it was something we wanted to do,” said Alex Feuer, eighth-grader in St. Veronica School, Howell, one of thousands of students to take part in the annual diocesan Catholic Schools Day of Service campaign.
