The Notre Dame High School community continues to pray and search for one of their own, 18-year-old Nicholas Pratico, missing since Sept. 20.
A member of the of the Lawrenceville Catholic school’s 2017 graduating class, Pratico, a Hamilton resident, was last seen at 3 p.m. on the campus of Mercer County Community College, West Windsor, by surveillance camera footage as he enrolled for classes. His family reported him missing about 10 p.m. that night and searches have been ongoing.
For the second time in the school’s history, Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, has been named a National Blue Ribbon honoree by the U.S. Department of Education. The first was in 1983-84, the year private schools became eligible to be honored with education’s highest distinction for schools.
Since the mid-19th century, when Catholics first settled in the rural landscapes of Western Burlington and Ocean Counties, scores of parish picnics have brought faithful together for worship, fellowship and food.
But the picnic that followed Mass Sept. 24 on the rolling fields around the Church of the Assumption, Wrightstown, was one for the history books.
With rides and games for children, folk dances by the Hispanic community, food and a tent in which to socialize, the catered affair drew 150 communicants of Assumption Parish, New Egypt, and St. Andrew Parish, Jobstown, together for their first shared Mass and social.

“Welcome back” may not have been the main theme during the Mass celebrated in Notre Dame High School the morning of Sept. 22, but the sentiment was certainly in the air as students finishing their third week of school and 17 Mercy Sisters, many of whom are alumnae and former teachers, gathered to celebrate the school’s 60thanniversary.
“Thank you very much for helping us continue the Mercy spirit,” school principal Mary Elizabeth Ivins said to the sisters, who were seated in the front row of the school auditorium for the Mercy Day Mass, which was celebrated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.
