Medford parish marks 75 years with Mass of Thanksgiving

With songs of praise and prayers of gratitude, 600 faithful gathered in Medford’s St. Mary of the Lakes Church with Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M. June 10. There, they celebrated the 75th anniversary of a parish that began with a handful of families in a log cabin, and grew over the decades to serve a multitude of thousands. More ...

Jackson kindergartener's Christmas artwork receives national recognition

An early Christmas present came by way of a national award for Penelope Michael.

The kindergarten student in St. Aloysius School, Jackson, recently learned that she was one of 24 students nationwide to have her artwork chosen as a winner in the annual Missionary Childhood Association’s Christmas Artwork Contest.

She also found out that her winning entry, which depicts an angel glowing in a yellow dress with arms wide open against a brilliant blue sky, will be on display during the Advent and Christmas seasons in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington.

Spring Lake students, parishioners make a difference a world away

“Mission of Mercy Uganda,” the outreach program of St. Catharine School and St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake, has existed as an integral part of the faith community for 16 years.

What began as a diocesan twinning with the Diocese of Kasana-Luweero, Uganda, was continued by St. Catharine’s with annual fundraisers geared toward specific improvements for the African diocese.
