Funeral services were held in the Sisters’ Chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, Stella Niagara, N.Y., for Sister Lois Marrah who died Sept. 24. She was 100.
Born in 2017 in Columbus, Ohio, Sister Lois, the former Grace Marrah, entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity Sept. 5, 1936. She professed her first vows Aug. 17, 1938, and her perpetual vows Aug. 18, 1941. She held a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary of the Springs, Columbus, and a master’s degrees from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.
Sister Lois served in schools and parishes in New Jersey, Ohio, New York and West Virginia. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in St. Agnes School, Atlantic Highlands, 1942-1945, and Mater Dei High School (now Mater Dei Prep), New Monnouth, from 1966-1969, and from 1985-1988, then served in St. Mary Parish, New Monmouth, as a pastoral administrator and in adult religious education from 1977-1984, then returned in 1988 to serve for nine years in the parish religious education office.
Sister Lois was survived by nieces, nephews and members of her community. Burial was in the Sisters’ Cemetery, Stella Niagara.
