Watching Lindsey Baron tear into a pitch and send it screaming through an outfield gap or charging a ball and gunning a strike to home plate to nail a stunned runner by 10 feet, one could never imagine her performing on a stage not too long ago.

In fact, Baron even has trouble imagining it these days.

Baseball success proving Trenton Catholic Academy more than a basketball school

Trenton Catholic Academy baseball coach Keith Naylor knows he is trying to grow a baseball team in soil that mainly produces basketball players.

Now in his sixth year, he is doing just that while using hoops as a recruiting pitch.

Trenton Diocese Free Throw champions crowned
Skill, determination and a touch of superstition proved to be the main ingredients for success as the 2018 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Tournament Trenton Diocese finals unfolded March 31 in Holy Family Parish. 

The Lakewood gymnasium echoed with the sound of bouncing basketballs and applause from supportive family and friends as boys and girls ages 9 to 14 vied for the title of champion.

NCAA championship is a win-win for Catholic universities

WASHINGTON – This year's NCAA basketball tournament was one for the books for Catholic universities. You might even say the ball was in their court.

That's because for the first time, Catholic university teams won both the men's and women's national championship games. The women's team, the Fighting Irish from the University of Notre Dame, beat Mississippi State University on Easter 61-58, thanks to Arike Ogunbowale's dramatic, three-point shot with less than one second left on the clock.

Wildcats in Rome cheer Villanova victory

ROME – The Villanova men's basketball team claimed its second national championship in three years April 2 with a 79-62 win over Michigan, and I was an ocean away from 99 percent of my fellow Wildcats.

But it turns out the 1 percent here with me in Rome was all I needed. Around 1 a.m. April 3, more than 20 Villanova students and a few Michigan students poured into the Highlanders Pub in Rome.
