Catholic Charities’ Ocean Community Services in Lakewood has received a $5,000 grant from OceanFirst Foundation of Toms River in order to help meet the basic needs of veterans and local service men and women – active and retired – and their families who are struggling financially.

Through its Home Runs for Heroes Program, the OceanFirst Foundation awarded $43,000 in grants to 13 local charities that serve members of the military.

The program, now in its ninth year, is a partnership between OceanFirst Foundation, Townsquare Media and the Lakewood BlueClaws minor league baseball team of the Philadelphia Phillies organization.  Home Runs for Heroes ties each charity partner to an inning, and every home run hit by the BlueClaws at First Energy Park during the charity’s designated inning earned them a $1,000 donation.

"The 2017 season was a great success, and we’re delighted that the Blue Claws hit lots of home runs resulting in a $43,000 donation by OceanFirst Foundation,” said Katherine Durante, executive director of OceanFirst Foundation. “This brings our nine-year total awarded through Home Runs for Heroes to $260,000. We thank the BlueClaws organization and Townsquare Media for giving us the opportunity to work together to bring much needed relief to local military families with special needs."
