On Sept. 15, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., sent the first of two checks for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. That check, totaling $351,672.81, was made possible by the generosity of the faithful of the Diocese of Trenton during a special collection at Masses on Sept. 2-3.
As of Sept. 18, the people of the Diocese of Trenton had contributed a total of $502,198 to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. A second check will be sent to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston with the remaining amount.
“With these gifts from the faithful of the Diocese here, comes our prayers for your good people and for speedy recovery from the devastation you have experienced,” Bishop O’Connell wrote in a message to the archdiocese’s Cardinal Daniel DiNardo. “We remember all too well such catastrophe as a result of Hurricane Sandy here some few years ago. We offer you these contributions with great love and compassion.
“May God be with you and your people.”
