On a sunny and seasonably warm July 9 afternoon, members of the now former Divine Mercy Parish, Trenton, gathered on the beautiful grounds of the Mercer County CYO Day Camp in Yardville with their brothers and sisters from Sacred Heart Parish, Trenton, where they prayed, shared camaraderie and prepared to journey together as a new community of faith.

As of July 1, the two existing inner-city Trenton parishes ceased to be individual parishes and were merged into a new parish entity whose name is now Sacred Heart Parish.

The July 9 gathering at the CYO began with a Mass celebrated by Father Dennis Apoldite, pastor, and concelebrated by Father Charles Muorah, who had just arrived the day before to begin his new assignment as parochial vicar. After Mass, the parishioners had a chance to become better acquainted as they enjoyed a barbecue picnic complete with hotdogs, hamburgers, various salads and desserts.

More to come on this story.
