In recognition of October being Respect Life Month, Life Chains were held throughout the country as quiet witness for the dignity of human life. In the Diocese of Trenton, one such demonstration was held outside St. Veronica Parish, Howell, Oct. 1 on busy Route 9. More than 50 individuals from the parish, other faith traditions and the community at large assembled in front of the church’s grounds.
Hubert Mador and his wife, Joan, who co-chair the Respect Life Committee in St. Veronica Parish, noted the committee has sponsored the LifeChain on the parish grounds for the past 25 of the event’s 27-year history. Father Vincent Euk, St. Veronica’s pastor, noted, “The turnout seemed to increase from last year. We filled the whole front of the church [grounds].”
At least 38 participants also showed up for the Life Chain held that same afternoon on Hooper Avenue in front of the Ocean County Mall, Toms River, representing Right to Life and Respect Life groups from Ocean County parishes.
