Diocese to hold first Festival of Praise Nov. 18

Faithful from across the Diocese are invited to attend the first Festival of Praise to be held Nov. 18 in St. Mary Parish, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Road, Middletown.

Using “Jesus Is Lord” for the theme, the event, set to begin at 7 p.m., promises to be lively and filled with Charismatic praise and worship, exhortations, sharing of Scripture and time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament,” according to Father Jeffrey Kegley, pastor of St. Mary Parish and diocesan liaison to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

It’s the hope of organizers that the Festival of Praise will lead participants to have a “personal encounter with Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit,” said Father Kegley.

Father Kegley said the Festival of Praise is a follow-up to the successful New Jersey Catholic Charismatic Conference that was held the weekend of Sept. 22-23, which this year celebrated the golden jubilee of the Charismatic Renewal.

He noted that the Saturday evening session on the conference followed the format of the Festival of Praise saying how “It was a very anointed evening with many experiencing a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit.”

Father Kegley explained that the diocesan event will model the monthly Festival of Praise that originated in the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio and will include exhortations and teachings by Father John Large, parochial vicar in St. Thomas More Parish, Manalapan, and a graduate of Franciscan University, and Father John Gordon, director of evangelization for the Newark Archdiocese.

The evening will also include teams for intercession, discernment and prayer ministry and music will be provided by the Joyful Praise Band from St. Veronica Parish, Howell.

“The frequent question asked after the conference was ‘what next?’" said Father Kegley, noting that the conference participants did not want to wait an entire year to gather to experience the lively Charismatic praise and worship dynamic teaching and fellowship.”

“The Festival of Praise provides us the opportunity to experience the anointing of the Holy Spirit and continue the celebration of the golden jubilee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal,” he said.
