A statement from Bishop O'Connell on the NJ dioceses' plan to establish a victims' program, publish names of credibly accused clergy
Since the establishment of the Dallas Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in 2002 (revised in 2005, 2011 and 2018) and its accompanying Essential Norms, dioceses across the country — including the Diocese of Trenton — have committed themselves to the eradication of the sexual abuse of minors in the Church and its institutions and agencies.

In addition, the dioceses of New Jersey entered into an agreement with the Office of the Attorney General of New Jersey and the prosecutors of every county — known as the Memorandum of Understanding — to report every single instance of the alleged sexual abuse of minors in the Church to their offices.

Following the review and response of prosecutors, Diocesan Review Boards, composed predominantly of lay professionals, make determinations of credibility to present to the bishop who, in turn, takes immediate, appropriate actions in accord with the Charter and Essential Norms and Canon Law.

'Beautiful Boy': Aspects will resonate with those in addiction crisis
NEW YORK – What “Beautiful Boy” (Amazon) captures best about the raw pain of drug dependency is the sheer randomness of it. Addiction is not only a moral failing, it happens in what used to be called “the best of families.” Unfortunately, this very legitimate insight translates here into a tone of smugness. More ...

Interfaith meeting helps Freehold teen learn more about own religion

Throughout history, society has been quick to judge Catholics due to the negative portrayal of the religion.

Nowadays with media being more popular than ever, religion seems to have lost its credibility. With everyone being given a platform, it has become more difficult to filter out false news from among what is true. However, media has the ability to make more of an impression than it ever did in the past.

Child Protection
Our Promise to Protect
The Diocese of Trenton is committed to the initiatives outlined in the U.S. Bishop's Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People in regard to the reporting and investigation of sexual abuse allegations involving minors.

If you have been sexually abused as a minor by a member of the clergy or anyone representing the Catholic Church, or if you know of someone who was, you can report that abuse through the diocesan Abuse Hotline.

To report the sexual abuse of minors call our hotline 1-888-296-2965 or email us at abuseline@dioceseoftrenton.org

Please note: The Diocese of Trenton reports any allegations of sexual abuse to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. Anyone with an allegation is also encouraged to provide that information to local law enforcement authorities.
