The Third Sunday of Advent, known as Gaudete Sunday, is always a joyful time, marking as it does the midpoint of the penitential season of Advent and the nearness of Jesus’ return.
As Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., gathered Dec. 16 with 19 seminarians in St. Benedict Church, Holmdel, for the annual Mass and Christmas dinner he hosts every year, he pronounced it doubly joyous, as it offered the standing room only crowd of faithful the chance to share the meaningful occasion with future priests of the Diocese.
