As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I wish to share with all the clergy, religious and faithful of the Diocese a letter from His Holiness Pope Francis addressed to the People of God responding to the sexual abuse of minors and vulnerable adults by clergy and consecrated persons as well as its cover-up by bishops and others in authority in the Church.

Bishop O'Connell celebrates Mass in Belmar after gazebo gathering canceled

The Mass at the Belmar Beach gazebo may have been canceled due to inclement weather Aug. 19, but rain didn't stop Bishop David M. O'Connell, C.M., from visiting with the Shore community.

Instead, Bishop O’Connell celebrated the 10 a.m. Mass in St. Rose Church, Belmar.

St. Vincent de Paul receives $20K grant from OceanFirst Foundation
The Ocean/Monmouth County District Councils of St. Vincent de Paul have been awarded $20,000 for the Good Neighbor Grant by the OceanFirst Foundation of Toms River. The grant will provide financial assistance to those in need in the two counties.

“This a very generous grant from the OceanFirst Foundation [and] will assist quite significantly in helping us to help the needy in our communities,” said Charlotte Cicchetti, president of the St. Vincent de Paul conference in St. Barnabas Parish, Bayville.

Column: Brick's Greenbriar senior community needs your help

On the morning of Aug. 13, Judith McQuaide found herself huddled in her bed, her three cats drawn close.

“The water was so high, I couldn’t get the door open. It was up to the top of the mattress. I wondered what I was going to do.”

With the help of a neighbor, Judith and her cats were able to flee the fast-rising floodwaters, which  she recalled, was more than waist-deep.
