'Humanae Vitae,' NFP workshops slated

The Diocese will sponsor two events in July to clarify Catholic teaching on married love and the transmission of life. Both are slated during Natural Family Planning Awareness Week, a national, educational campaign of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops that this year runs July 22-28.

“Not Your Mom’s NFP” will be held 7 p.m. July 23 in St. Benedict Parish, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel. The program will share new methods for NFP, or natural family planning, geared toward young adults. NFP methods use no drugs, devices or surgical procedures, but rather are based on the observation of the signs of the fertile and infertile phases of a woman’s menstrual cycle.

A two-hour discussion on “Humanae Vitae” and what it means for today’s Catholics will be held at 7 p.m. July 25 in St. Joan of Arc Parish, 100 Willow Bend Road, Marlton. The document, translated “On Human Life,” was issued July 25, 1968, by Pope Paul VI and discusses God’s plan for the creation of new life within the bounds of married love.

For more information on the programs, contact Peg Hensler of the Department of Evangelization and Life at 609-403-7156.
